About Us The 1point story so far ... Meeting demand to improve community wellbeing 1point was created when five established charities acknowledged the increased demand for their mental health and wellbeing support services. In 2011 our founding members - Fortalice, Beacon Bolton Counselling, Simeon Centre, St George's Day Care Centre and MhIST, recognised the strength in working together to sustain existing services and use their shared experiences to reach more people. 1point was formed as a Charitable Community Benefit Society in 2012 and quickly established itself as a central point of access for those looking for a wider choice of talking therapies in their communities. Increasing access to talking therapies 1point received initial funding from the former Bolton Primary Care Trust who valued the importance of local people co-designing mental wellbeing services across the borough. Their successors Bolton Clinical Commissioning Group continued this support and, in association with Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust (GMMH), commission 1point to provide counselling and relationship therapy as part of the Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) scheme. 1point receives referrals for more than 3,000 people per year via GMMH's Single Point of Access service and additionally provides a range of specialist talking therapies through its independently accessed Silverwellbeing schemes. 1point's achievements We have retained and increased the provision of non-stigmatising talking therapies throughout the Bolton borough. 1point and its partners offer the local population a wider choice of mental health and emotional wellbeing services, including one-to-one therapies, couple counselling, psychotherapeutic group work and opportunities to learn new skills for personal and professional development. Our working partnerships and collaborations have increased with statutory, private and third sector agencies to ensure that more people in our area can benefit from a wider range of services to meet their emotional needs. In 2016 we moved to the historic Silverwell House in Bolton town centre allowing us to create more space for new and emerging services and ... ... helped us play host for a number of fundraising events for local and national charities! We have created new paid employment roles for therapists and administration staff. 1point has opened up more opportunities for volunteering and training to local people interested in either new career pathways or becoming involved in helping others in their own communities, especially through our Silverwellbeing concept - creating joined up pathways of therapy, training and signposting services throughout our network and beyond.
