This qualification is suitable for:
- Those who want to learn Counselling Skills in other professional or helping roles
- Those who want to improve their professional and personal relationships as part of personal development
- Those starting the first level of training as a Professional Counsellor
This nationally accredited Level 2 Award can lead to new employment opportunities, and increase employability for those whose role is to support others in health and social care work, teaching and learning, advocacy and mediation, support and project work and other helping roles.
It provides additional skills for those already in employment likely to lead to increased opportunities for promotion and advancement.
Course Content
The SEG Awards ABC Level 2 Award in Counselling Skills qualification consists of the following two topics.
- Counselling Skills and Personal Development – In this unit learners will have an opportunity to reflect on their personal and future development and identify potential sources of support. This unit encourages you to develop self-understanding, identifying your own values and beliefs and the ability to reflect and target your personal qualities and skills.
- Using Counselling Skills – In this unit, learners will have an opportunity to develop counselling skills in a helping relationship and learn to establish appropriate boundaries. The content of the qualification will support you to develop and expand your counselling skills, knowledge and understanding at level 2.
You will learn to identify core counselling skills alongside understanding how these are practiced in a counselling relationship. You will gain an understanding of how to establish an effective working relationship and will consider the boundaries which need to be respected in this sensitive role.
Date and Timings
Duration: 7 consecutive Tuesdays 5:00-9:00pm. Plus a drop in session available prior to class 4-5pm.

Entry requirements
No previous training or experience is required to undertake this qualification. However, to successfully complete the course and obtain the full qualification, participants will be expected to complete written assessments.
Fees
The full cost for this qualification is £330 (+ 5% admin fee if paying in instalments). Where funding is being provided by another, a deposit of £50 will be required and funders’ details provided in advance of the course. Government grants are not eligible for this course.
