Therapeutic Groupwork Programmes

** PLEASE NOTE THESE SESSIONS ARE CURRENTLY NOT RUNNING**

What is therapeutic group work?

This form of therapy uses the knowledge and experience of a group of people working together, rather than working individually on a one-to-one basis. Group therapy offers a support network and provides an opportunity to meet others experiencing and managing similar concerns to you.

A typical group involves between six and 12 people and can last between one to two hours per session over a number of weeks.  They are usually facilitated by two experienced therapists who encourages participants to share their experiences and personal progress.

Information shared in this setting is confidential to the group and it is important that you are able to commit to a specified number of ongoing sessions.

Why work in a group?

Quite often working in a group can help people identify their own behaviours better.  Listening to others can lead to the discovery that your feelings and behaviours are maybe not as unusual as you originally thought.

Discussing emotional difficulties with a safe and caring group will provide you with useful feedback.  This may be from the facilitating therapist or practical tips from group members who have experienced similar difficulties themselves.

Working with a group therapeutically not only offers feedback and advice, but is also an opportunity to support others.  Sharing and speaking to others who find themselves in similar situations can help participants feel less isolated and more supported.

Good to know

Therapeutic Groupwork is part of 1point’s Silverwellbeing services – a suite of confidential and independently managed talking therapy support to help improve wellbeing and resilience in all our communities.

These therapeutic services are for people and organisations who would prefer to self-refer themselves directly to support rather than discussing their issues with a GP or health care worker first.

Current funding allows us to offer most services free of charge to you, but we welcome donations to help the 1point Network continue this valuable support.  If there is a set cost to a service you will be informed in advance.

I’m having a refresh but if you require any information, please contact 01204 917744
